Recognition of Netflix Inc by Emmy raised the stature of the programming distributed only through the Internet, a new field that is attracting the biggest names in Silicon Valley and a list of Hollywood's A-level stars.

Toward the end of the year, will distribute the series Amazon.com political Alpha House , with John Goodman, one of the five original programs only viewed on its Prime Instant video service. The video site and file hosting Hulu will offer animated comedy Up Mother , in which Eva Longoria dubs the character of a former music executive who becomes suburban mother.

The granting of an Emmy already had the power to add a veneer of legitimacy to a program. The HBO, Time Warner, enjoyed its greatest moment after Sopranos was nominated for the award for the first time in 1999, a fact that triggered a wave of other programs as well received as the Secure Wave , Entourage and Boardwalk Empire .

"The Emmys have caused a revolution in the media to accept input from video services at the feast," said Tom O'Neil of website Gold Derby. "The Emmy is the Hollywood establishment, which means it is conservative and its tendency is to close the doors for what is new and to keep the riffraff out."

The 14 nominations for the Emmy Netflix programs, including for best drama, best actor and actress for the political thriller House of Cards , are the first series of online presence in major award categories. The recognition showed that the distributors of Internet productions can compete with the quality found in heavyweights of cable, like HBO and Showtime, as well as in major TV stations.

Smaller producers on the Internet prepared to create major programs. The Machinima , funded by Google, which has as target men aged 18 to 34 who like to play video games and read comic books, began negotiations with Hollywood studios to produce programs of 44 minutes or eventually become investors, several sources told Reuters.

The best Hollywood talent are open to participation in the series online platform can attract a large audience, said Modi Wiczyk, co-CEO of Media Rights Capital, the independent studio that produced House of Cards for Netflix, which has 29 service million subscribers in the United States.

"Certainly a lot of other services entered the conversation," said Wiczyk. "The artists ask 'how many people can see my work if I do a good job?'"

Even with the advancement of Netflix, online video series still have a long way to go to reach the level of awards HBO, Cable rush that was new 20 years ago to enter the Emmy party, then dominated by networks TV.
